  1. Yes, but you could save even more energy by turning off the computer too.


  2. Any device that still has blinking lights on it or transformer built in it is consuming energy silently. On an average, sleep mode devices such as portable phones or monitors or any electric device in a stand by mode or sleep mode will incur an approximate 2watts of energy a year. That does not sound like a whole lot but if that can be avoided then you should completely shut off any electric device.

    On the contrary to myth that leaving a computer on is healthier, it is a complete bull c**p.

    Any electronic device is deteriorated over time and leaving your computer on 24/7 will only short its life and make you pay more on your electric bill.

    A computer power supply consumes 250-400 watts which is ALLOT! (compare to 4-6 light bulbs). A monitor consumes in the range of 60 watts.

  3. It will save energy, especially if you are using a CRT monitor.  LCDs won't use a terrible amount of energy, but turning it off will help prevent screen burn-in if you do not run a screen saver.
