It just seems to me that an umpire tends to expand the zone when a pitcher gets down in the count 3-0. Does it seem like that to anyone else?

  1. The strike zone is never the same on any two consecutive pitches.

  2. I think it depends on the ump--But how many times to you see a batter getting ready to chuck his bat and head for 1st, only to be called back?

More times than I can count...

  3. sometimes, they give the pitcher a break. Sometimes they get confuse and throw the wrong signal and are to embarrassed. Sometimes they see it in the strike zone or judge by the catchers glove.

  4. Yeah, I know what you mean, but sometimes they are completely opposite and give them the next ball easy to get the next batter up and things flowing.
