Question:

Does it seem that some poker dealers in a live game are "luckier" for you than others?

I was wondering if anyone has experienced a shift in their game when the dealer changes. I have noticed this and cannot explain it. At the casinos in Southern California dealers change roughly every 45 minutes. I believe that the dealer is very important. When a new dealer comes to the table the energy changes. The dealer controls the type of cards you get because they cut the cards. I was wondering how or if this has impacted your game. I know it is irrational and even downright crazy or paranoid to blame the dealer for bad cards or being rivered. However many people identify dealers who do not deal to them. They will actually take an out button for the duration of that dealers presence. I was wondering if anyone has a theory to explain this. My feeling is that you can't rely on the dealer for luck or blame them for bad decisions.

  1. It can certainly seem so, but that is pure superstition.

The amount of hands dealt in live poker games is statistically so low that you cannot make any predictions based on those.

  2. Haha... I know what you mean... I'm hitting boats over flushes... straights over sets... aces over queens... and then the next dealer comes in and I'm getting 7-2... 8-3... J-5 ... haha. You can't blame the dealer no matter what happens. He just deals the cards. But i do feel one dealer gives me alittle wink sometimes. It's just luck how you get the cards and unluckiness when you have a bad beat.

  3. It's superstition at best.

  4. If you are a serious poker player, this is a bad thought process.

Luck is an illusion, and that's what great poker players know. You will win/lose the same amount from any dealer over 200,000 hands.

  5. sometimes they change the dealers to try to mess you up if your on a winning streak
