  1. I was there in May and it was lovely - no smell at all.  But I've heard others say that sometimes it does, and it seems like Nov-March is the worst for that  No matter, I still think it's the most beautiful city in the world

  2. i didnt smell anything

  3. I've been to Venice in the winter, the spring, and the summer, in the rain and in the sun, and I didn't notice a bad smell. Of course, since it is on the water and I live far from the ocean, I may have associated any odor with the water.

In any case, it is not smelly like you're going to have to walk around holding your nose. Well, maybe in some smaller alleys where there is trash or dog p**p... but no, it doesn't smell bad.

  4. It smells rather bad in the summer because the water level is lower than in the winter. In the winter it even smells nice there! Anyway, Venice is a must-see, smell or no smell. It is an exciting city full of mystery and ancient history. The city has been independent for thousand years and it shows.

  5. I heard it smells like rotten eggs when theres a heavy rain, but i don't know that for sure. No offense to anyone it is just what I heard, never been there.

  6. no

  7. I've been there in the winter and it doesn't smell bad then. However, my dad has been there a few times and has told me that it smells bad in the summer. Sewage is dumped into the canal water, so during the summer when the sun heats up the water the smell comes out. Apparently it's a horrible stench.

  8. not always sometimes specially in winter time

  9. Bad?

    No, it doesn't of course...

At least, in summer, when the water is low, you feel a light smell of alga or seaweed... which is not a bad smell... or is, if you don't like that :)

Let's not forget that Venice is on a Lagoon, on the shores of the Adriatic sea...

As any modern big city, Venice has had it's own sewers system for a long time...

Bad smell in Venice? The perfect examle of a real Urban Legend :)

  10. I was in Venice for almost 2 weeks a month ago. There were certain areas that did smell . The beauty of the city far eclipses any odor . what I experienced was not anything that would keep me from going back . If I could I would live there for the part of the year they don't experience aqua alta .

  11. We visited in june didnot notice any bad smell
