Question:

Does it sound like my interview went well?

I recently had a job interview where I interviewed for an hour with a manager and another hour with his direct reports. During the hour with the manager he told me that I was very articulate, qualified, and was a great fit for the position, and that he'd let me know by the end of this week either way. When I interviewed with his direct reports, they also told me that I was very articulate and pleasant to talk to, and that I interview very well. They also were very friendly and they all told me several times that it was great to meet me. It seemed like the interview went really well. I hate to get my hopes up but I am really hoping to hear good news from this place as I think I clicked so well with everyone. Does it sound like the interview went well, or are most people you interview with just that nice?

  1. It sounds like your interview went very well and you are in consideration for the position. If the interview is not going well I wrap it up and get rid of the person. No sense wasting either of our time. Since two people interviewed you, You obviously passed the first interview and got to the second and more important interview. The fact that the 2nd interview was positive and lasted for an hour is in your favor. Not all interviews go well.

I have interviewed people and absolutely thought this was the person I would hire for the job. And I have hired that person ... Or ...  along comes someone more qualified or available for less money... You just never really know until the position is filled.

They told you they would call by the end of the week, and you say you will be told either way. I do not notify persons I interviewed that they didn't get the job. So because they are telling you either way they will call means they want contact with you. It is good you sent them a thank you, a good reminder that you are very interested in working with them.

  2. sounds to me like it did, but you never can tell...with the increasing amount of competition out there, it's hard to stand out from the crowd. i hope it went well for you...don't forget the follow-up thank you letter/phone call...i think a lot of ppl forget to do this and it could make or break your chances!!!
