im 19 years old.

i have no medical insurance.

i have decided that if i have to go to the hospital and get an outrageous bill (actually all their "bills" to us poor people are outrageous) that i want to die rather than face bad credit for the rest of my life, for not making enough money to pay the "bill".

id just rather die than have bad credit start at the age of 19.

  1. SAME, am 21 and rather die also...seriously then pay for a large bill. I have seen people cry that because they stayed in the hospital they have a bill of 20,000..........where are they going to get that? Who wants to pay something like that off? This country sucks and I said it and mean it!! The health care is sad, unless rich your going to get no help!

    To the poster below:

what you do all that and get cancer? Doing all that helps but doesn't save you....dot dot dot....

  2. Don't smoke, don't drink alcohol, don't eat "fast" foods, don't eat processed foods or keep consumption of them at a minimum. Exercise, and stop eating that crappy, processed, sugary, saturated fatty food/beverages and candy you like to eat, and you won't have a problem. I'm more than twice your age, and I'm not worried about health insurance because I unlike many people in the U.S.A. respect my body..

  3. Believe me, I know the feeling. My husband had to go to the emergency room and then the hospital for two days and at the time we didn't have insurance. The bill was outrageous, and we were offered no help because they deemed us as not eligible. (we are not rich or even upper middle class) I am still paying the bills.

However, what you do need to know is that when an uninsured person is in the hospital, most often a financial counselor will meet with you to determine whether they can eliminate most or all of the bill. At 19, you would probably qualify. Furthermore, as much as I hate paying the bills--they all worked with us. I am paying six different institutions for that visit, yes....SIX. But...like I said, they will work with you. You can pay as little as $10 per month. As long as you talk to them if you are going to miss a payment, your bill will never make it to collections. Most health care bills usually don't go to credit. (some do, but not many) So..hopefully this eased your mind a little. It doesn't mean your credit will be ruined or you will personally be in financial ruin.
