  1. Ball bearings, perhaps?

  2. No.  According to the FAA's most recent data, there are over 6,000 active women mechanics.

  3. if you a boy, but a vag for girls can work just as good..

  4. No, but it does take 5yrs of full time school and a lot of determination.

  5. it's a cockpit not a box office

  6. That depends on if you're willing to go on the test flights of the aircraft you've worked on. Then you need some big, brass clankers at times.

The rest of the time it's book knowledge, pracitcal experience, common sense, deciphering manuals, deciphering the AC43:13 and a willingness to get dirty and bloody your knuckles. And other parts of your anatomy.

You have to be able to laugh at yourself at times, and you have to be able to take your work very seriously. You have to be able to trouble shoot accurately before performing any work, which can be where brass balls and laughing at yourself can come into play.

I've had to get closer than I liked to spinning props, I've had to hand prop engines, (Oh, how I hate that,) pick ignition locks for test runs, cabin doors, (always fun to answer how I did that,) lay directly underneath the engine of an aircraft running at full throttle to determine if the wastegate setting was off. (Safety glasses, earplugs, an engine swinging 325 horsepower through a prop a few feet away from my head.)

It can be a lot of fun, it can be a pain in the @ss. (Oh, how I wish someone would invent lavatory that could be repaired by a plumber rather than an A&P.)

Carry a change of clothes in your car. Remember that the emergency showers don't cut off as soon as you release the chain.

    Fly the Friendly Skies!
