  1. It really depends on what states you plan on "skip tracing" in. As said it is a very dangerous job at times with the other time filled with social engineering and mind numbing surveillance. If you really want to get into it, start making friends at the local bail bond agencies and companies. Find a reputable bounty hunter course and take it. A lot of time you can learn a lot from the classes along with the knowledge if the job is for you or not. Expect to hide your identity and cover your tracks as those who you traced will consider you an enemy. Also try not to skip trace the area you live. Last thing you want is to be out at dinner with the family and have two of your "customers" paying you a visit.

  2. No..

  3. I make a distinction between "skip tracing " which is what I do, and "bounty hunters '.

My clients,  who are car leasing companies, hire me to find people who owe them money on their leased car payments. I "find them " and then go and seize the vehicle and return it  to the rightfull owner, the leasing company.

Bounty hunters are paid to find and arrest people.

Both jobs require guile and being able to "think like a criminal ".  Mine is a lot less risky. And I 'm busy all the time.

  4. No.

    It takes Street Smarts.

  5. I'm thinking of the movie "Missouri Breaks".  I suspect that bounty hunter had a degree, and a couple of merit badges. But then again, he was a sniper.

There are varying degrees of bounty hunter, but I doubt you see many bounty hunters confronting the police.

    Here's a thought:

Graduate Ranger school, do your duty, and take it from there. I'm sure any Blackwater type corporation would like to see that resume.

  6. no, doesn't work that way.  you operate like a street thug.  has to be that way or you get hurt.  not a clean business.  it's rough, and it's dirty.  you don't learn this in any classroom.

  7. No you don't but you must know the law of what can and can't be done. I have been a FRA for 6 years now it can get dangerous at time. Not just with the units you are seeking to apprehend but with local PD they hate us with a passion and will try to throw road blocks in your way.

  8. LOL, NOT IF YOU LOOK AT THAT JERK ON T.V., 'DOG'

(Mike, no offense, one would have to be somewhat street-wise, it's just that I Hate that Dog the Bounty Hunter...the only one I hate more is his wife)
