If I have a lightbulb that does not work anymore still in its electrical socket and have the switch for the light on, would it waste electricity or would it do nothing?

  1. No it would do nothing. The filament in the wire has burned up in a certain place and therefore no current can flow through the wire and emit light.

  2. No, a burnt out bulb uses no energy.

Oh, wait. I think I agree with Engineer. Thumbs up for that answer.

  3. No, if the filament is broken no electricity can travel, thus it wont waste any.

  4. That depends upon the type of light bulb and whether it is switched on or not. A regular incandescent light bulb will not use energy after it burns out whether it is switched on or not. However a fluorescent bulb will use energy even after it has burned out if it is switched on.

  5. it doesn't do anything at all if the light is broken the electrical circuit is incomplete so therefor it's not using any energy at all.

  6. No,there must be a circut or a circle of power usage. If there is nothing burning in the socket, the circut is broken.Just as if you had turned of the light switch. All that does is provide or deny a circut.

  7. no, it doesnt waste any energy at all
