Question:

Does it waste water if I turn the hose on but the sprayer is off?

I am talking about my outside hose. I recently forgot to turn the water off at the hose start but the sprayer was off. I didn't see it dripping any water at all. Would this cost me more money than if the water wasn't turned on at all?

  1. no it wouldnt

  2. No, because the water was blocked and couldn't go anywhere because of the sprayer.

Just think of the hose as an extension on your piping and the sprayer and a new valve.

The hose has the same purpose, except that it's outside of your home. (Unless if there's a hole in your hose, then you ARE wasting water because the water would leak out of the hole. If not, then you're good.)

  3. No, you do not use any water unless it is running, but do not

make that a habit as that will shorten the life of the sprayer

and it will begin to leak around the threads quickly! You also

risk the chance of the hose bursting from the pressure of the

water, so it is not a good idea to do this purposely, or again.

But that one time, no harm done and no money wasted! :)

  4. No. But the pressure build up would be tremendous and eventually the sprayer would just be blown off the end of the hose. If you werent around when that happened, then , yes, you would lose lots of water until tap turned off.

  5. If its not leaking it isn't using water.

But, you need a good hose to hold the pressure without it getting damaged.  Best to turn it off, but not a real problem.
