  1. Not only does it worry me, it gets on my last $@&% nerve!  I know how to text, too, and I spoke a lot of "ebonics" in high school, but I still know what is and is not correct, and I realize that spoken communication and written communication (more formal!) are different things!  I also realize that there's a good chance that last sentence was a run-on...forgive me, I dropped my English minor in college when I got to my lit crit class!  (I teach music, I don't need to know the intricacies of Derridas [sp?] and deconstructionism to do that!)  Who knows, maybe that makes me just as bad as the idiots who think that plz is an appropriate way to politely ask a question!

  2. Yes it does.

  3. Yup, as does our childrens' need to be entertained at every waking second of the day, rather than some quiet time to actually think their own thoughts and develop some moral and altruistic values, their thoughts, their feelings, etc.  Course these days the parents also seem to need constant entertainment and jabbering in their ears.

  4. No, because we NEED those people to balance out our society.

Without them, there would be perfectly literate, reasonably well-educated people who would be at the bottom of the distribution curve, and that would be unfortunate.    Imagine being one of those people - you have a Bachelor's degree, and you can speak and write reasonably well, but you'd still be considered to be on the fringes of illiteracy -- not fair!   :-)

  5. Yes it does.  I think that the computer has taken away from the ability to use one's mind and therefore resulting in an early onset of dementia related illnessess in younger adults due to the lack of inactivity and challenges of the brain.

  6. No; what worries me is Grammar for Dummies is not a best-seller...
