Question:

Does jelly/jam expire?

I found a jar of Welch's concord grape jelly in my kitchen cabinet hidden behind some cans. I think it has stayed relatively cool this whole time. It is unopened. But from what I can estimate, it is 10 years old (the copyright date on it is 1998). It has bubbles in it too. It doesn't have an expiration date marked. Is it safe to eat?

  1. First of all... why would you want to eat some jelly... from 10 YEARS ago??? Wouldn't you prefer some fresh jelly?? I dont think you should eat jelly that has been in a cabinet from 10 YEARS ago....

  2. I think it is okay.  But if it is rotten the odor and taste will tell you that immediately.  Open it and sniff it.  If it smells good it is good.

  3. no,its not

  4. No.  Jellies and jams have a shelf life.  Don't eat it, just throw it out.  Some can goods have a shelf life, too.  I just wouldn't trust them, especially if the are homemade.
