I'm a weekend employee and got summoned for jury duty on a wednesday. In case it's not over by friday, will court reconvene on saturday or the following monday?

I ask because I'll have to tell my employer if I'll be missing work.

Thanks.

  1. Usually-unless you are on a high-profile case and have to be sequestered.

  2. Yes - unless you are sequestered.

  3. You'll have to ask the court your doing jury duty with. I would say week days only, but that's where you found out from the people who have called you in!

  4. Yes, the courts are only open during the week.

  5. Most cases are only heard Mon-Fri.  In some cases, especially during deliberations, the jury is in session on weekends.  As others have stated, in certain cases, the jury is sequestered.  In those cases, you are away until the verdict is returned.  The court clerk can probably give you the best answer.  Even then, the JUDGE has the final say.  I recommend informing you employer of what you actually know, and keeping them updated on any changes.  If the jury is sequestered, there should be a process to allow you to inform your employer, as long as you don't discuss the case.

  6. The judge will ask if any person needs to be excused.  Have proof that you work on the weekends and you will most likely be excused.
