e.g. worms, fluke, etc.

Is eating it raw (i.e. tartar) not recommended or hazardous?

  1. My understanding is that the roo meat sold in butchers, supermarkets etc is farmed and is subject to the same quality controls as other meat and so very safe. I would suggest asking the butcher.

Shooting your own wild roo however the meat may be riddled with parasites - not recommended.

  2. Hello. I would not eat it raw as they say it is full of worms and you should cook it well like you have to with pork. I do not eat meat but i can just tell you what i see on the news etc. I got told because the roo's are a wild animal people shoot them and they have alot of chemicals in there system so that is really bad as they never check out the meat before people eat them. They are just shoot them in paddocks from anywhere. Just imagine what they have ate. Just thought i would tell you the facts to what they are saying and complaining on tv and saing it is not healthy. Hope this helps. Take care.

  3. As far as i know kangaroos do not have any diseases that are transmissible to humans by eating.  As a wild animal there is always the chance that they have worm.  Kangaroos cannot be farmed in the traditional sense of develop herd, treat for disease, de-worm etc.

I would not advoate eating the meat raw, but have not tried it.  I'm not really fond of raw meat of any sort.

When i have eaten kangaroo it has been a DIY thing.  Shoot skin and cook ourselves.  I live in Karratha west australia so i am fairly confident that the plants the roos eat have not been treated with any pesticides/herbicides, there is no crop farming round here..

Roo tail stew is a personal favourite of mine.
