Many people use their cordless handset and put it back on the cradle/base and keep it there all the time. Is that bad for the battery? Should I put the handset on cradle only when it needs charge?

  1. should NOT damage the battery UNLESS the battery charger is a poor design and over charges the battery or the battery is bad to start with and gets over charged because of a weak cell.

  2. Most home cordless phones use nicad batteries, and the chargers are dumb (take the battery out, put the handset on the base, and the charging light still lights up).

Nicad batteries like to be exercised. About twice a month, leave the phone off the base until the weak battery indicator lights up. Then put it back on and let it charge up. If you do this on a regular basis, you will get more time per charge, and you won't have to buy a new battery as quickly.
