This is a real, old-fashioned place. First built in 1922, it still has no room telephones, air-conditioning, or TVs. As a getaway, it's been called "Georgia's sweetest secret garden." Some of the hotel's original furnishings of rhododendron and twisted laurel are still here, a little worse for wear, but mellow. Quilts on the beds and tiebacks holding the ruffled curtains add to the old-time charm. Most of the rooms have sinks, but outside bathrooms are shared. Guests gather informally around the big, old fireplace. The food is good and home-cooked. Canoes are available if you'd like a closer look at the lake. Management warns, "Nobody puts on fancy airs here." They're right!
