  1. I've heard it's really hard to transition between the two of them. i think if anything helped me with the basic principles of snowboarding it was a little bit of skateboarding but mostly (thought it sounds weird) it was plaing hockey and learning how to skate as a kid. It's pretty much the same movements as hockey skating only sideways. Hard to explain.

  2. no

learning to ski is like learning to rollerblade

    snowboaring is diferent

  3. Learning to ski doesn't help you at all when you snowboard. I skiied for 3 years and then I switched over to snowboarding, and it didn't help at all.

  4. Actually, learning how to surf would be better than learning how to ski, for snowboarding.

  5. They are totally different.  Once you get the hang of it I think that snowboarding is a lazy man's sport, there isn't too much work that you have to do to get down the moutian.

  6. Yes and no.

As far as confidence sliding on the snow, lift operation and the alpine responsibility code goes you are way ahead if you're a skiier as opposed to someone who's never been on the slopes before.

No because skiing and snowboarding are completely different.  The similarity ends after "your feet are strapped in and you go down a hill."

  7. Learning how to ski does very little to help you snowboard.  You will get the feeling of sliding on snow.  You will also learn how the various lifts operate.  In addition, you will (hopefully) learn the same set of safety rules that both skiers and snowboarders go by: the Alpine Responsibility Code.

  8. Yes it does as by learning to ski it will give you confidence as you will be used to the feeling of sliding on snow and used to going down the mountain. When learning how to ski or snowboard most people have a fear of falling or loseing control and injuing themselves, which is natural and good to a certain extent but it can also hold you back when learning as you can become hesitant and extra cautious. Although the tehniques used to ski is very different from snowboarding, the feeling is similar and therefore people who can ski pick up the basics quicker generally as they have less fear and are used to the feeling of movement more. Good luck with the riding.

  9. h**l no!

It so much harder. The only thing skiing can prepare you 4 is falling down. Even though falling with skis is very rare. But its so much fun. First time I ended up with lots of bruises. It takes awhile to get use to it.

  10. no not at all.
