  1. Wow...first off you need to learn how to write...

    but seriously...

Yes. Classes cost money here just like anywhere else.

Prices average around 7000 yen per month (which is about average in North America too..so it isn't cheaper...). It really depends on the art and where you are studying.

And if you are in Tokyo you need to add travel costs (I spend between 500 yen and 2000 yen per trip...).

I don't know where you are but I am guessing the US... so 100 yen is about US$1.

  2. What are you going to live on, good intentions?  They're going to train you for free of course.  And you're going walk to Japan?  And you speak Japanese right?

If you're independently wealthy, hey, what are worried about money for?

  3. Yes. On top of the cost of training you would need to pay for accomodation, food and travel. The cost of travel varies depending on where you leave from.

EDIT: No, the training is not free. It is cheap by Western standards, but is not free.

  4. I heard (although dont quote me on this) that the training itself is actually free, but I'm not sure if i beleive that or not

  5. Depends, run of the mill basic martial arts are cheaper over there than in the west (average).  Some public schools even give it for free if you are young.  But for advanced studies, the kind you would need to travel to Japan for (i'm assuming you want to learn Karate)  Most Masters only teach one student at a time and, it is not a money issue but a skill issue.  Also most true Japanesse masters HATE americanized, showboating, high kick roundhouse, Karate; what you will learn from them is more concentration, precition strikes, and a whole bunch of mysticism LOL  (not worth it in my view)  Best Go to Brazil and learn Brazilian Jujitzu, less BS more practical stuff.

  6. Everything cost something. You can expect to pay for a visa. The airfare is high. Once in Japan you can expect to pay high prices for food and accommodations.

We have a member of our organization that train in Japan for a number of years. We have never spoken about the cost of training. But the knowledge he picked up was great. He was just inducted into the Rakasans Hall of Fame for Martial Arts.
