  1. Your shoes are a by-product of an animal generally slaughtered for it's meat.  Waste not, want not, whether it be cattle, bison, amphibian, or bird.  Their hide is used for many purposes, even saddles.  Synthetic leather does not outlast well taken care of animal leather.  Snake is a delicacy in restaurants, the skin is sold for fashion.  Same with ostrich & emu.  If your boots only said 'leather' then assume cattle, as other leathers are more costly & would state the kind it is.

  2. the chinese use human skin for their leather. Dont tell anyone that, They dont have cows

  3. usually a meat cow because they are the ones slaughtered in the first place.  but that's mean, buy faux leather, it lasts longer and it's not a cow on your ankles.

  4. ive looked at this question for a few minutes/ how can someone not know the answer to this that they have to ask this on yahoo questions.

    is this a trick?

  5. It comes from an animal usually a cow.

  6. Yes, most leather used in shoes and boots comes from cattle that have been slaughtered for meat.  Thick, heavy leather comes from old burned out bulls.  Sometimes pigskin is used, but often times it's used for leather satchels, camera cases and other non-clothing items.  Often times the very soft leather in ladies gloves is from lambs or goat kids that have been slaughtered.

  7. Anything that's dead, basically, so the majority from beef cattle.

  8. Different leathers are used for boots. The bus driver this morning wore ostrich skin cowboy boots. For riding, I have calfskin high boots. I've seen crocodile and lizard skin boots too. Cheaper boots are made of cow hide. Some may have patterns embossed to look like costlier leathers.
