  1. It doesn't release toxins, per say, but it isn't the best thing for you or the water, either.  

    If it's spring water (you'll know by the bottle, they can't call it natural spring water unless it actually is) it can grow algae with heat and light.  It's a quick way to ruin the case of water you just purchased.

    Furthermore, it does SLIGHTLY break down the bottle.  It's still going to be safe to drink for it's entire shelf life, but it's still a general recommendation that you do not leave any beverage in any container in the heat for prolonged periods of time.

    If you left your water in the car for 24 hours and you're concerned, don't be.  If it's been in there for 6 months of heat-- I personally wouldn't drink it.  At that point, the water quality is compromised.
