  1. The enormous energy of lightning breaks nitrogen molecules and enables their atoms to combine with oxygen in the air forming nitrogen oxides. These dissolve in rain, forming nitrates, that are carried to the earth. Thy reach the soil and affect plant growth by providing the necessary nitrogen for growth.

  2. Lighting and lightning both affect the growth of plants.  Although fungi are plants that can grow in the dark.

  3. Were you asking about lighting or lightning?

Lighting definitely has an effect on the growth of plants.  If kept in very dim light or no light the plant stems become elongated, yellowish and weak.  In bright light, chlorophyll will develop normally.  Colors of light can also effect the growth.  Some plants are sensitive to red and far-red light and length light and dark periods which will induce flowering or seed germination.
