Question:

Does local anesthesia hurt.?

I'm having a lipoma removed tomorrow thats under my arm and I will be given local anesthesia what does it feel like is it really painful and is there another option?

I would rather not feel the needle at all.

  1. It feels like any other shot.  It may sting for a couple seconds, but then it will go numb.  If they have to give you more than one shot, you usually only feel the first one because it starts numbing the area instantly, therefore, you rarely feel additional shots.

    You can do it :)  I had to have surgery on my big toe and they had to give me 7 shots in the toe.  OUCH!!!   I am a wimp and survived ;)


  2. Yes it does hurt. It is sort of a burning sensation as the medicine is injected. But that only lasts a few seconds and will be the worst part of the surgery. There are really no other reasonable options, but don't worry too much, the pain is really bearable and quick.  

  3. I have had that down yes it does burn they had to  give me 4 shots when I got my tonsils out and that didnt even make me go to sleep so they just put a gas mask on me lol that made me pass out
