Depending on the woman, it can hurt.  Some women are born without a hymen - your "cherry" - or some women break them by horseback riding, gymnastics, or bike riding.  The hymen is a thin layer covering the vaginal opening.  It can be painful, and blood is not uncommon.  However, the pain will last only for a few moments.  Majority of the women who have lost their virginity say the pain lasted about 30 to 60 seconds.  Some women do bleed, some do not.  Again, it depends on the woman.  Hope that helped(:
