Does lug size matter on a car ?

if i have a truck with a lug size of 12x1.25 and the vehicle im getting the rims off have a lug size of 14x1.5 will it hurt to use them

  1. With a diameter difference of 2mm., I think I would worry about the rims cracking around the stud holes. Especially if the rims are 2nd. hand, and have always been secured by 14mm. nuts.

    I am assuming the 12mm. nuts are smaller in AF size, and therefore have a taper that is not as large as the 14mm. ones.

    Should the 12mm. nuts have a stepped- out taper on them, and it is of similar diameter to the 14mm. ones, you could use them, provided the rims are of the same size as your originals, or not vastly different. Just be sure when they are tightened, the taper definitely is what is holding the rim on, and the nut has not bottomed against the hub instead.


  2. Yes the lug size will not match up and may not work all together.could cause a problem keeping the wheel mounted on the vehicle. Hope this helps !
