It works well using the magicJack in the USA to call a phone number in the Philippines BUT NOT FREE. It will cost you 18 cents a minute to call a phone number in the Philippines using the magicJack. You need to purchase magicJack international minutes to make an international call.

I think the better alternative to this is just send the magicJack into your friend/relative in the Philippines and make them use it (in conjunction with a PC with a DSL/broadband connection) to call you in the USA. Calls to the USA and Canada via magicJack are FREE.

Also, calls to the magicJack number are FREE as well. That mean's if you send a magicJack a friend/relative in the Philippines (or any place that has a fast Internet connection) and call that device's magicJack number from the USA, that phone call has no additional charge.

MagicJack works great for calls from US to PI. You have to sign-up  for their long distance call plan. Calls are free within USA or Canada.
