Does magnetic paint/chalkboard paint really work?

Question

i was thinking about maybe layering them on a normal bedroom wall.

like magnetic paint and then spray over it with the chalkboard paint.

does the magnetic paint really work and how much to either/both cost?

any suggestions on how to do it? thanks a a lot!

Interesting question. Like so many other people, I've seen on HGTV the use of both of these products. I believe they are both a roll on application, come in colors (or have them colored), but I don't know about the use of them together. Maybe check out HGTV and look for some info on that. My experience with magnetic walls is that they're pretty bumpy. I used the one where you mix iron flakes into primer. You also need to put a couple of layers to make sure that there is an ample amount of iron on the wall. I also needed a couple of layers of paint to fully cover the magnetic area. Finally, you need to use rare earth magnets to get the maximum magnetic force (please be careful with them; they're very strong).

After all that, I was only able to put pictures, pieces of paper, and small picture frames on the wall. The only concern I have with your plan would be that the drawing surface would be bumpy. Other than that, I think it should work. I see no chemical incompatibility as long as you let the paint dry between coats.

According to the magically magnetic website, the flakes cost $75 for enough mix for two gallons of primer. That covered my 3.5ft by 30ft area four times. Did I really pay that much? Well, maybe the ready mixed stuff is cheaper and not as bumpy. Good luck!

Krylon makes each in cans of spray paint.  I am currently trying this technique on the back of a door.  I have sent Krylon an email to ask this exact question.  You are welcome to email me and see what I've found out by trial and error and from Krylon!
