  1. It is always in a state of flux....there are variations in the field....sometimes it even flips.....so to claim it moves a certain way is not accurate.


  2. It doesn't travel either way, it is not a particle or a current, it is a field - nothing is carried along it is a feature of the universe.

  5. It's doesn't really "travel", but the magnetic field is conventially depicted as pointing from the North magnetic pole to the South magnetic pole. Without going into too much detail, the field just tells you which way a compass will point at that location... so that's what's pointing one way or another.

    A curious thing to note is that the earth's North pole is actually a South magnetic pole, and vice versa! This must be the case in order for the North pole of a compass to point North, because opposite poles attract.
