Sure they do, every Manager does, some are just more successful and more adept at getting them to work. Lippi is a motivator and a thinker, a great reader of the game. Mourinho has taken Chelsea to Titles in the EPL also. Their strategies would revolve around their opponents strengths an weaknesses, their own players capabilities and on a match by match basis.  They know their opposition and would adjust to suit. They are both very good defencive strategists and though strong in these areas are not rigidly fixed to being totally defencive. Being able to read a match and knowing when to sub players in and out at crucial times has bought them both success.
