It could be because you're sweating more and not washing your face afterwards. Try washing your face after you're done and see if it stops.

I've never heard of masturbating leading to an increase in pimples.

this is truly absurd...

of course not! acne is caused by hormone imbalance and hygiene issues. what you're doing isn't affecting these. you might turn red from the exercise, but it goes away.
