McDonald's is actually one of the better corporations for recruiting from with-in for management. A general manager of a busy McDonald's can make over $100,000 a year but a shift manager only makes about $8/hour to start since their main job is to not let the other employees burn the building down. I hear Friendly's pays their dishwashers $10/hour
