  1. yay for cambo's mention of the ranges... i live out there, i have to defrost my car every morning...but snow? not so often. It has to be super cold for snow...

  2. Cambo's answer is correct.  The thing is, Joe, Melbourne has a dry climate in spite of what Sydneysiders will tell you, and it's getting drier.  That means little precipitation of any kind, and it's simply not cold enough for snow anyway.  Winter is cool, from June to August, followed by a very variable and unpredictable spring.  Summers are also variable, but mostly fiercely hot and dry.  Autumn (March-May) is by far the pleasantest season.

  3. Melbourne gets quite a few mornings of frost every Winter, however snow is extremely rare anywhere near the city.  Closest snowfalls are in the Dandenong Ranges which is on the very south-eastern outskirts of the city, about 40-50km from the CBD.
