  1. The sales tax is 15%, although it is usually included in the proce of most goods and services, so you will not notice you paid it. Groceries and medicines are tax free. At borden towns, the slaes tax is lower (10% I think).

  2. It is called IVA and applies to non-essential items..htere is no tax on food or medicine.  it is usually included  in the price of the item.  If you buy a big item, like real jewelry, or furniture, or electronics, it is added when you pay...but for items tourists buy, it is included.

  3. Yes, the IVA; the items that pay IVA are all except: foods, medicines and books.

As foreigner you could ask the refund of those taxes, but I have no idea how to do it. I ask refund of the IVA in my bussines, 'cause we produce foods; maybe you should ask an accounter or in the mexican ambassy or consulate closer to you.

When I've gone either to Canada or to USA I ask the refund of taxes, they always pay it. There are offices that do this job, it is the same in México.

  4. Mexico in general has very low taxes... Most 2nd and 3rd world countries do. Only 1st world countries have high tax rates.

  5. yes on everything but it is inclueded into the normal price i think its around 11% but a 20oz coke is around 70 cents.qq

  6. Yes they do have sales tax but its included usually in the items you buy so you wont even notice youre paying it.
