My fiancee is in the Army national guard as an mp and is getting ready to deploy to afghanistan for a year. He is mobilized to fort bragg for 45 days then ships out. Does that 45 days of mobilization count toward the year deployment?. Also any info on 2 week R&R would be really helpful. Will he possibly be able to get one?.. and if so, is it for the army to decide when he gets it or does he get to choose? Thank you for all who answer!

  1. The actual deployment starts the day his boots hit the ground in Kuwait, or wherever in the middle east his unit goes before Afghanistan.  The length of his R&R will depend on how long the mission is.  If he is there for a year, he should get two weeks.  When he takes it is completely up to his command.

  2. The 45 days isn't written in stone as part of the MOB process. Its just the amount of days allowed to go through all the steps that are needed to get ready to fly overseas......such as medical, dental, supply, finance, etc, etc. It normally doesn't take anywhere near that long unless he has some "issues" with any of the above.

And yes, the 45 days do count as part of his deployment orders. Its all figured in by his higher headquarters. But don't think for a minute that he will be home on that 366th day. The orders will read something about up to 18 months, depending on the needs of the Govt. But normally he should be back at Bragg after a total of 13 months from the day he reported.

R&R.....yes he will be allowed 15 days of R&R during, depending on unit needs first. He can put in a R&R request for any dates, but the Command will give their "yeah or nea" on those dates.

  3. i was navy, so I can't say for certain, but in comparison I would say no the mobilization won't count as part of the deployment.

  4. R&R can happen anytime from 30 days after arriving in Zone to 30 days prior to scheduled return.  Each command runs things differently as to who gets it when, or even IF.

My DH's orders( Navy, going IA..as an individual) include all his stateside preliminary stuff as part of his total number of days on orders.
