I am currently reading Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl. The whole journey was based on his theory that Polynesia was first inhabited by South Americans who crossed the pacific on Balsa rafts (like the one he and his companions built.) Does modern DNA science confirm or refute this theory? Can you site sources? I am not a student, just a curious person. Kon Tiki is a very good book.

  1. The above answer is completely wrong. Thor Heyerdahl's hypothesis was totally refuted by the evidence of DNA analysis. You can find this information on google, easily.

  2. Then you need to read Aku Aku by Heyerdahl, about Easter Island and the Birdman cult.

Yes, Thor, who died in 2002, lived long enough to see his theories proven by DNA evidence.

  3. there's brand new evidence on polynesians getting to SA before europeans, see work on dna of the auraucanian hen relating to the polynesian hen.

    it was recently on reuters.
