  1. what?

I thought it pointed to a non-rolling -stone

  2. NO.

  3. No. I've never heard this before, although it is often repeated that moss preferentially grows on the North side of trees. This latter statement is actually true in the Northern hemisphere, but the reverse is true in the Southern hemisphere (more moss grows on the South side of trees).

The reason for this is that moss preferentially grows in moist locations. In Northern latitudes, the South side of tree trunks is more sun-parched, on average, so we'd expect less moisture, and accordingly, less moss. In Southern latitudes, the North side of tree trunks is more sun-parched, on average, so we'd expect less moisture and less moss.

In rainforests where the sun cannot easily penetrate the forest canopy, there is an equal amount of moisture on both sides of tree trunks, and moss grows around the entire trunk.
