ok heres the thing..

My dads forcing me to move to Dubai because he wants the whole family to move there. Hes already booking me and my brother's place in the school there in march (next month) and i really don't want to go but i have no choice! Theres no one i can stay with here in England and for starters my mum and dad would never leave me with any aunties or other family in England while they live in Dubai. Hes planning on moving this year August or September. My uncle already lives there and my cousin's going to move there as well to live with his dad (same time as us). So what can i do to persuade him to stay? He's already made up his mind and booking my place in the school next month.

And does moving school and COUNTRY at the end of year 10 affect my GCSE's? They do GCSE's in Dubai as well so can i just continue with my GCSE's at the start of year 11? And what happens to all my coursework that I've done this year?

NEED ADVICE QUICK!

THANKS!..

  1. In theory .. no. I've known someone who did and I don't think it caused her any problems.

You don't have to do the whole GCSE course at the same school to count but school boards IS a problem.  E.g. - if you do one year of history with one board then it'll be completely different to yr 11 of another board with diff topics.  Then your coursework also wouldn't count.  English lit as well - what if they do diff books? Though this would probably be less of a problem as most boards offer very similar selection of books and you could just choose a different exam question to the rest of your class. As long as it is with the same board then coursework shouldn't be a problem, your school will just send it and your grades to them.

Check out the board thing - find out which boards your new school will do and if they're the same as you're doing now.  I think this is only really a major problem with history - if you do it - and english c/w.  Ask your school. Good luck!

  2. I'm so sorry your parents have decided to make this move which is obviously making you very unhappy. All countries work differently so I'm not sure about your GCSE's but be positive and it will work out fine. You are still young and able to adapt, and as you say you have no choice in the matter so its far better for you to fix on the positives. A new home ,new life, new friends and hopefully you will still have the internet to stay in touch with all your old mates.

We moved to Spain 10 months ago and left our 17 year old daughter behind to stay with the family of her best friend. It was a hard decision but has worked out well. But you are that much younger and I know I personally couldn't have left a child your age behind. At least your dad has sorted out your education for you so go with it for now. If it doesn't work for you, once you are 18 you can do your own thing.

I wish you all the best and hope you really enjoy your new life.
