  1. I'd like to mow high too since it is better for the grass.  You can try to mow more often to curtail the weeds if you don't want to use herbicides.  Be careful with borax.  Too much can make the soil toxic to plants.

  2. You don't get more weeds, it is just a little bit easier to see them!  You should mow a little higher in the summer, it is healthier for your grass.  If you go shorter, you should not remove more than 1/3 the length of the grass.  If you need to remove more, mow more than once over a few days.

  3. Cutting higher is much better.  What you should do though, is to take a 2-liter soda bottle, cut off the bottom and remove the lid and then spray Round-Up lightly on the weed.  Once you have knocked off the weeds, cutting higher will work.  If you have clover, do not kill it.  Clover fixes Nitrogen into the soil.  Incidentally, clover needs Borate.  So just sprinkle with Twenty Mule team borax.

  4. most lawns have some type of weed in them, you need to find the height which suits your lawn before the weeds in it get a chance to flower and produce seeds.you can get weed killers which don't kill grass if you want to go down that line
