  1. Yes, it will pay for tuition at the University of Florida-- the rule is, if it's a public school in Florida and you're admitted, they will pay.

Bright Futures covers 100% of tuition, but not room and board (i.e., not food or housing), if you get the highest award.

Bright Futures pays $187.50 per semester, $125 per quarter, or 93.75 per quinmester for books.  Since UF runs on a semester system, you'll be getting the $187.50.

You can see the actual breakdown on the link below (don't worry, not a wikipedia link).

  2. It depends on which level of Bright Futures you qualify for.  At the minimum it will pay 75% of your tuition or 100% of your tuition depending on if you go to a public university or private university.  See the links below.  It only pays your tuition but Bright Futures also gives you $187.50 per semester for books which really isn't much since I just bought one book for the fall semester that cost me $136.  On average, I have spent between $300 to $500 per semester in books and I try to buy used books and buy books online but you will always have that one class that requires you to get the new edition and it is usually expensive.

The housing pricing is in the link below.  All freshmen are required to stay in the dorms the first year they are at UF.

There are plenty of extra fees also like parking decals at $122 per year, if you want to bring your car and park on campus.  Also, they have started charging a gym fee if you want to use the gym.

  3. Having 100% Bright Futures will definitely cover tuition at UF. It does not pay for room/board/food or anything like that - generally the tuition amount will adjust itself depending on how many hours you're taking to cover the cost of classes and lab fees and such.

Referring to the other poster - wiki is not completely up to date. Because of the recent budget cuts in Florida, Bright Futures is only giving us $187.50 per semester for books (which SUCKS, it used to be $300 per semester).

Housing varies depending on what type of dorm/what dorm you live in, but you can calculate the base costs if you look at UF's housing site.

Also, definitely file a FASFA at the beginning of the year, you might be eligible for some grants or scholarships you don't know about! Take a little time to apply for scholarships online - remember that scholarships are free money and you don't have anything to lose by trying.
