  1. YES... anyone going out of the country needs one.

  2. If you're flying, yes; everyone needs a passport.

If you're driving, no, just a birth certificate.

  3. "tonalc" gave you the only correct answer.  Rules are same for infants, children and adults.  If you are flying to Mexico, you must have a passport.  If travelling by LAND or SEA, adults need a photo I.D. and proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate, and children need a birth certificate.See 1st site below and read carefully for current info.  see 2nd site if you need to get the baby a passport.

  4. In accordance to the new immigration law in the US, in order to travel, everyone needs a passport including children but the children can get by with a birth certificate and a school picture Identification Card (ID)

However for a speed return, a passport is recommended.

  5. Beginning in January, 2008, passports will be required of all people entering the United States, even from bordering Western Hemisphere nations such as the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada. You wouldnt really need it but it is better to be safe than sorry and if not then you will need proof of US citizenship, such as a birth certificate, and a photo ID. I would advise you  to get a passport, anyway, and carry it with you to Mexico. It is the ultimate proof of US citizenship. An adult US passport is good for ten years, so if you plan a trip to Mexico get it.
