Does my 2 year old have an overactive imagination?

She was watching Backyardigans on tv in my front living room and ran screaming into the back living room. The two rooms are only about 5 feet apart and you can hear everything from room to room. She said she was scared of the closet with all of her toys. So I took her over to see nothing was wrong. I opened the door and turned on the light, she looked straighted ahead, held on tighter to me and said she was scared. What does anyone think?

  1. SHE PROBABLY SAW SOMETHING ON THE TV THAT GAVE HER THAT IDEA  JUST DONT LET HER WATCH TV ALONE ANYMORE OR SHE COULD DEVELOPE A LOT OF PROBLEMS.

  2. There's no such thing as an overactive imagination when it comes to a two - year - old.  She sounds completely normal, so don't worry.

  3. MY son watches backyardigans..you sure she wasnt watching the episode of the detectives they have ghost in that episode .

  4. I am raising my granddaughter and she is afraid of the closet and the dark. She has to have a little lamp on in the closet. So I don't think your daughter has an overactive imagination.

  5. lol i've done weirder.

    1. i used to make inventions out of boxes and paper (you know like time travel, go to different dimensions and stuff) i thought they worked =) i would go around to my family and random people on the street and be like "are you an alien?" and stuff. yeah....

    2. i remember something about being afraid of lamps cuz i thought that was where the shadows and the darkness came from you know like when you turn the off. yeah i was a smart 2 year old lol

  6. I think it's normal and healthy that she's got this sort of imagination. My kids are the same way.... wait until she's older!! LOL

  7. i think it's normal.  when i was a kid i was afraid of skeletons and ghosts and things.

i think we evolved that way for a reason.  i think that little kids are scared of threats like the "boogie monster" because there are child molesters and sickos who might want to abduct a kid out there.  of course kids don't know about these things.  but they evolved this fear of ghosts and boogie monsters to make sure parents checked their closets for psychos and/or any animals that might have posed a threat in early days.

  8. There is probably a ghost in your closet.

    Try them, heard they're great!!

  9. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT...KIDS WILL BE KIDS :-) IM SURE YOU DID SOMETHING STRANGE AS A CHILD ALSO..WE ALL DO :-)

    TAKE CARE

  10. She is exhibiting normal behaviour. My son likes to reenact scenes he has seen in movies or TV shows. He has a Thomas lantern that he would walk around going. "What was that?"

  11. It may have been the episode, depending on which one it was. I would just reassure her and try to explain ( I know its hard ) between real and make believe. ( Real is mommy and you, make believe is what you see in the T.V. or something ). I think its great when kids have good imaginations, nuture her!

Or she may have seen something in the closet that scared her momentarily. I know a shadow has hit a shirt/curtain/closet more than once that had me looking twice..and I am 22!
