Question:

Does my A* in RE Mean anything?

The majority of people in My school got A* or A in their Gcse Religious Studies Exam.

Does that mean that most people around the country also got the same and is it completely worthless to employers etc?

Apparently Religious Studies is compulsory in most schools but in ours it isn't..

  1. a* is basically perfect, 100% or near there, it is only compulsory inC of E schools, and not everyone got that because people were in lower tests

  2. A* is brilliant, apparently my school had the worst results in Yr 11s yet.

Also it's not about the grades, but how many GCSEs you actually got. Everyone always goes on about 'oh I got three As' or whatever, but employees don't look for the highest grade, but for how many exams you actually pass, and a pass ranges from A-C.

So don't worry, you did great!

  3. I got an A* as well but it was compulsary in our school so a number of people did get the top grades but it is useful for employers because they know that you think problems over from different points of view and make educated decisions and plus we're only one a few people to recieve this distinction. God Bless

  4. RE or RS IS compulsory in ALL state schools. It's not compulsory to do a GCSE though.

It's a good pass you have. Most employers and all universities want 5 A* to C GCSE's including English and Maths. As long as you have the English and Maths RE is just another GCSE.

  5. I got A* too (mark 98... but no one's said what it's out of so I don't know how much that means...).

The majority of people round the country won't have got the same thing because the top grade boundaries are defined by what the nation as a whole gets.

Maybe your school had a good teacher for it?

Mine was the short course..technically only half a GCSE apparently, so that probably DOESN'T really count.

    Well done though!

(Oh, and it wasn't compulsory at my school. And we only got 2 hours on it.. at all.)

As you can see, most people DID NOT get A or A* in the country. So yes, your A* does mean a lot, and don't let anyone tell you any different. And NO, it is not worthless to employers, I'm sure will value it with equal merit to other GCSEs.

As far as I know, RS isn't compulsory in most schools
