Does my DTV converter need to be HDTV for my HDTV Set?

There is only one kind of coupon-qualified DTV converter, and it will work with any set.

Any DTV converter that qualifies for the govt coupon cannot handle HDTV.   It will work with your HDTV set, but the picture wqn't be HDTV.  If you have an HDTV set, make sure it doesn't already have a digital tuner in it (all the newer ones do) before buying a DTV converter.  If it does not, and you want HDTV, you will have to get an HDTV tuner, but your coupon cannot be used for that.

Any TV labeled "HDTV" has a digital tuner (ATSC) & does NOT need a DTV converter box.
