I am traveling to Mexico (Cancun) on 8/21 for 1 week on a U.S. passport valid until November 2007. I am trying to confirm if I will be able to enter Mexico or if I must have a passport that will be valid for 6 months. Thank you.

  1. I'll look into this further but I am guessing that as long as your passport willl be valid beyond the dates of your trip as posted on your airline tickets, you should be fine.  You definitely need a valid passport to fly into Mexico, though.

  2. let me tell you how i entered mexico.....i started walking across the landbridge, and nobody stopped me.  i had a huge suitcase, was obviously a tourist, and obvliously white, and no one even asked my name much less check my papers.

my point is...they are not that strict.  you have a valid passport, it will work.  the theory behind what you are saying is that you can stay a maximum of 6 months on a tourist visa, so you would want your passport to be valid for at least that long.  but i assume you are flying, you have a return ticket, and if they really have issues, they can easily change the dates on your tourist visa and have it be valid for only the length of time you say you are going to be there.

    honestly, you will be fine!

  3. Neither the U.s.State Dep't consular information sheet on mexico, or the Mexican immigration service visa page specify that the passport must have 6 months time left on it.  usually, if this is a requirement, they state it.  I know it would b more comfortable to have it in writting, but it just isn't there.  You could call a travel agent and ask...they often know these things, or call the nearest mexican consulate...tho getting thru to them is always hard.  Also , call your airline...they should know if that is a requirement.  I don't THINK so, but i know you want a better answer than that!
