Question:

Does my business have to put up a curbside mailbox because the carrier told us to?

The business on one side of mine has a mailbox near the curb, but the business on the other side of me do not. The mail carrier came in today and told me that I had to put one out there, also. We receive checks in our mail that sometimes are quite large and we are very uncomfortable having them delivered near the street. Do we have to do this because the carrier wants us to, or can we refuse? We are located in Oklahoma and I haven't been able to locate any regulation stating that this is necessary

  1. You have to follow the regulations that the post office that SERVES YOUR ADDRESS stipulates.  The postal carrier may or may not know the details.  Just give them a visit and they will actually give you a form that specifically outlines what is required.

Don't judge based on other businesses.  They may have zoning, permits, etc. that do not apply to you.

  2. if u want ur mail delievered, i'd put up a mailbox..i have seen mail boxes that lock and only have enough space open to slide in the mail..check at home depot
