Question:

Does my cat have Toxoplasmosis?

Is there a test that can be done on my cat to find out it is has or carries toxoplasmosis? What would the approx cost be for that? To my knowledge, my cat has never been outdoors, killed any animals or ever ate raw meat. None the less, I'm concerned.

  1. Get a new cat.

  2. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii.[1] The parasite infects most warm-blooded animals, including humans, but the primary host is the felid (cat) family. Animals are infected by eating infected meat, by ingestion of faeces of a cat that has itself recently been infected, or by transmission from mother to fetus.

The odds of an indoor cat who never ate raw meat being a carrier are slim, indeed. I wouldn't worry about it.

However, if you're asking because someone in  your household is pregnant, the general rule, for safety's sake, is....the pregnant person does NOT clean the litter box. Better safe than sorry.

  3. A vet will let you know for 100 dollars.
