Question:

Does my cat have arthritis?

She's 9 years old.

She's a calico.

I'm starting to notice something different in her.

She's always been really lazy, but she's gotten a lot slower lately.

Also, when I go to pick her up she cries or growls like I'm hurting her.

She's not upset with me, I know, because she comes to me to be petted and she'll sit in my lap and sleep when I'm just sitting around.

So is she in pain?

She's never cried when I picked her up before..

  1. she might have it however she is very old hope for the best ^^

  2. take her to the vet, the chance is she probably has some sort of an injury. dont worry about her being extra lazy and slow, she starting to get old and isn't as lively as she used to be

  3. Sounds like you need to get her to a vet as soon as possible.  Please walk around your house and see if there are any chewed wires or exposed wires to make sure she didn't get a shock.  Also see if there is anything out of place, perhaps she fell or took a tumble.  The only way to know if she has any health issues, is to get her to a vet.  She may be in a lot of pain, and only you can ease it by taking her to the vet.

  4. It's very possible that she could have arthritis.  To get a proper diagnoses, you will need to take her to see your vet.  Most vets begin feline geriatric exams at about age 10.

There are several treatments for cats to help manage the pain and loss of mobility with arthritis.

    Good Luck!

P.S.  Never give your cat any pain medication developed for human use, such as aspirin or Tylenol.  These medications can cause fatal toxic reactions in cats.

  5. Its expensive, but you might want to take her to get checked out. They can do x-rays and see if she has arthritis. They can also tell you things to give her like a small dose of aspirin to help her be a little more comfortable.

  6. take her to the vet! they'll tell you...we don't know!

  7. I'm a ranch owner ,and i have 2 cats, 5 horses, 49 goats, and 10 dogs, and use to have 9 cats (outside). But, of course you cat is getting older, and sounds really sweet. Like my fat, really lazy kitty. My older cat that is about that age has done the same thing, doesn't sound as bad. I really think that the best thing to do is take her to the vet.It could be serious. She could have a back problem. The thing is, vets have gotten more expensive these days. You might want to feel her legs and back to see what she mostly yowls at or see if her stomach is more bloated, neck is more slumped, or if she has lumps anywhere, just if there's anything out of the ordinary that you haven't seen before. :)hope she's ok.
