Does my cat have ear mites? She isn't scratching at all.

Only one of our 7 cats has ever had ear mites. And he had them when he found us one hot summer Texas day 4 years ago. They were treated and gone within days. I've had cats for 14 years and never had ear mite issues.

One of our cats is holding her ears low as if she had itchy ears. She's shaking her head but not constantly. She hasn't itched them once. I'm around her enough to be very positive of this. She's eating, sleeping, drinking, going to the bathroom fine and acting normal.

She just looks like yoda and shakes her head with a forceful NO. :)

I looked in her ears with a flashlight. They are pink with a little wax and small amount of black or dark yellow. And I mean small amount.

Any ideas?

THX in advance!

  1. She may have mites, or an ear infection.  Please make an appointment with the vet so your cat can receive the proper medical care.  Have the vet check all the cats in case it's a viral infection.

  2. Could be mites, or an ear infection, or an allergy. Food allergies often present in the ears.

Since there is no way to know for sure without a swab from the ear, it's best to have a vet take a look. She's obviously bothered so better to be safe than sorry.
