Does my cat snore because he is a bit overweight? Or is it something normal? ?

He is 5 years old and weighs 15 pounds. He has a furry little pouch that hangs from his belly and swings when he walks.

My cat snores worse than my boyfriend! He curls up upside down and off he goes...snort, snuffle, snort.... (the cat, not the boyfriend LOL).

I agree about the fat pad, many cats have them without any problem. But being overweight as a rule is still not healthy and I would ask your vet if that is the reason your kitty is snoring.  If it is, I would try to help him lose some pounds so he can breath easier.   But ask yourself if the snoring is something that just started or he has always done.  If it is new then I would be more concerned.  There could be something else going on such as a growth in the nasal cavity or chest.  Hence, I would have your vet take a look.  

I hope your kitty is ok, he is probably fine.  But always better safe than sorry.  :)

all of my cats snore and none of them are overweight.  Most animals snore when they fall asleep and feel so relaxed so take comfort in the fact that your cat feels relaxed around you. But as always if you really do feel unconformable by this you can always call or go and see your vet.  That is what they are there for.  :)

as far as being overweight.  That is normal for the most part aswell.  Alot of humans are overweight but are perfectly healthy.  It could be that your cat has a slightly larger bone structure.  Or just that you feed it well.  I would rather have an overweight healthy cat then a perfect weight malnurished cat.  If you are worried about that then cut back on the hard food.  My vet told me that canned food has much less caleries then hard food and in the long run is better for your cat.

Many cats do snore, so not to worry.  And, many house cats do have that "little pouch".  If you are concerned about his weight, check with your vet for dietary recommendations.
