Does my check card get charged when I set up a Carnival onboard expense account?

I just put a deposit down for a 5 day cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy for our 10yr wedding anniversary, sailing on Dec 22. In setting up on the Funpass check in I'd like to know do I get charged right away for the gratuites?

If you have pre-paid the gratuities the amount will be charged and added to your final payment for the cruise ticket.

If you are not pre-paying the gratuities they will be added, usually daily, to your shipboard account and charged to your credit card at the end of your cruise.

If it does get charged, it won't be untill embarkation. Setting up the funpass will speed-up the checking in process, but nothing gets charged until embarkation. I'm going on a cruise and am prepaying gratuites so that I don't have to worry about it later. That might be a good option for you since your cruise is still 9 months away.
