  1. Yes....anyone riding a bike in NY needs a helmet.

  2. Even if not required, there is no reason not to put a helmet on them. They are the most precious things you will ever have - keep them safe!

  3. Check with your pediatrician to make sure that your babies neck can support the weight of the helmet.

  4. Children under one year old should not be on bicycles.

At that age, it's a strain for the child to hold his head up at all, with or without the helmet.

  5. because you want them to grow up, learn to drive, graduate, get married, and give you grandchildren! you should wear a helmet for the same reasons! at nine months your son may be too young for the trailer yet. a helmet will most likely be too heavy for his neck to support. a helmet saved my life 24 years ago when helmets weren't cool. I still wear one. if my kids aren't wearing a helmet, they don't ride. not even in the driveway.

  6. First, don't put your babies in a trailer without helmets. Their heads are too precious to go without that protection.

My son's pediatrician said that he shouldn't wear a helmet until he was a year old because his neck wasn't strong enough to support both his head and the helmet. Check with your pediatrician, though. All babies are different. Besides, I got that advice 22 years ago. The standard practice may have changed since then.
